Dan Whitehurst

Dan has over 20 years of experience chairing boards of directors in the public, private, and nonprofit sectors. He is an attorney, businessman, and former mayor. He has also delivered radio and TV commentary and taught at the university level.

With his background in "boardsmanship," Dan enjoys working with boards of directors on their governance and performance – from board composition and meeting dynamics to strategy development and working relationships with management.

A native Californian, Dan is a graduate of Saint Mary's College and UC Hastings College of the Law. He was a Coro Fellow in Public Affairs and has a master's degree in urban studies from Occidental College. After ten years in local government in Fresno, he was a resident fellow of the Institute of Politics at Harvard's Kennedy School of Government.

He has been a business owner and operator for over 30 years and has served on boards of directors of large and small companies. He currently serves on the board of directors of California State Automobile Association (AAA for Northern California, Nevada and Utah) and is president of the Institute for Local Government, a think tank for California's cities and counties.
